Your CV - Getting noticed

The CV is the most important aspect in the selection process and is the only stage where you have total control. You need to market and sell yourself to impress a potential employer through this medium. The CV serves two purposes - to get you short listed for an interview and then provide structure for the interview.

Basics

  • Correct spelling – use spell checker and proof read
  • Short sentences and paragraphs
  • Use positive words to create impact
  • Use past tense
  • Be Succinct – 2 pages are sufficient
  • Accuracy – no career or educational gaps
  • Honesty
  • Reverse chronological career and academic experience – most recent first
  • Visual impression – good layout
  • Quality paper
